Change...Be careful what you ask for!

A year and a half past. Barack Obama won the presidency of the United States running on a platform of Change (Change we could BELIEVE in).

Now, year and a half later, there have been significant changes and yet there is this seemingly cacophony of complaint, dissent and in many cases outright belligerence and hatred of the administration, seemingly in spite of it's significant successes.

Foreign relations have improved since the ouster of Cowboy George, the health care bill that brought down the Clinton administration (Hilly at least) is a slam dunk and in the bag, the economic crisis that threatened to plunge the country into a depression worse than the one of 1929, has been contained if not completely cured, and the wealthy elite for the first time in recent history, now have a sense that they DON'T just automatically get whatever they want at the expense of the working people anymore.

And what do the American people think of all this? Well to hear the media version, the majority are screaming for Obama's head on a pike, and for every member of the Democrat party to be roasted on a slow spit. But is that REALLY how everyone feels?

Ask yourselves some very important and pointed questions. Do you think the public interest will be served or undermined by giving every American citizen health care insurance coverage. Will our foreign interests be better served by indiscriminately starting and waging wars across half the middle east , or by enlisting the assistance of the collective civilized world to negotiate peace.

Will our people be better served by bailing out and handing over the keys to our treasury to a corrupt consortium of wealthy foreign and domestic bankers and financiers who wish nothing less than the financial enslavement of every man, woman, and child in America, or should we take back the financial control of our country, slap fresh controls and regulations on these bandits.

And has the Obama administration actually acted in a manner contrary to the wishes and interests of the citizens of the United States, or has that been an impression that is carefully cultivated and promoted by the right wing hard line media?

Myself I'm glad we're not in a full blown depression, I'm glad we're at least planning to remove our armies from Iraq, I'm glad they're at least trying to control credit card companies, predator lenders, and trying to help underwater homeowners. I'm not saying that everything is working out really well, but at this point anything the keeps matters from getting any worse is better than nothing in my book.

So in the larger scheme of things, I think the people who are screaming the loudest, are the very people who stand to lose the most from the real changes that really are taking place. And a lot of the noise seems to be coming from the corner where the big money lives. That really doesn't come as a surprise to me and it shouldn't surprise anyone else either.

And unless you really do want our country to de-evolve into a 2 class system (Filthy Rich and Dirt Poor), you might want to get behind a little of this CHANGE you claim isn't for the better and that isn't really changing anything. Because if that were really true then you wouldn't have a complaint in the first place.
